Estate Sale Thursday

Tapestry-Sofa

Can you believe Estate Sales now start on Thursday?  So the weekend begins!  We saw this velvet tapestry sofa at an 100 year old Prairie style home in Wheaton.  It sold just as we walked into the house.  Next time.

The Courtyard Summer Storage Sale

Not only is this is great sale, but for such a good cause.  Wellness House provides free programs to support families whose lives are affected by cancer.  Go, and get there early.  So, here’s a quick peek at some items that will be available on Friday morning………………

Bonita-Beach-Sunset

Tomorrow, I’m on the airplane headed back to Chicago.  I’ve been walking this beach for the past 40 years and have so many fond memories  of Springs Break vacations, my first at age 16.  The beach homes have changed entirely, but the beach itself remains the same, beautiful.  I spent the morning with my good friend Janie perusing a Premier Estate Sale in Naples and ended the perfect day on the beach at sunset where my real heart lives.  I can’t wait to come back.

I really wasn’t planning on going to any estate sales today.  I am actually in the process of downsizing some of my collections.  After all, how many glass baskets can one girl have in a house?  So, as I was driving by one of the more interesting vintage homes in town today and saw their big estate sale sign in the front yard, I did go around the block, parked miles away and went in.  This cute red and white picnic set was calling my name.  And it was one of the best estate sales EVER.  They gave me lunch to go.  Can you believe it?  Thanks Ron!

Mirror for Christmas

My husband was correct and I hate when that happens, but we have no walls left for this mirror.  So, if you are looking for a great mirror that has a nice window effect and all dressed up for the holidays, I just posted it this morning on Craigslist.  Local pick up only.  Price:  $95

Hand Painted Dresser

People who know me well can attest to my fondness of mahogany furniture and the color black.  As I rounded the corner at a recent estate sale, there sat a vintage mahogany dresser in black semi-gloss with the hand painted pears.  It is a lovely combination that I’m saving in my idea files for the future.  Linking to:  Furniture Friday

Demi-Lune Cabinet

This is the summer corner of my dining room.  When I saw this floral Demi-Lune cabinet at a local estate sale, I knew it would go perfectly with the oil on board painting that I paid $3 for at an another sale in Boulder, Colorado while visiting my daughter at college.  Knowing where are the local antique malls and shops are located in every town I visit is a requirement.  Stumbling on estate sales while traveling is an added bonus.  Love the details on the backplate of the pulls.  The wall shelf holds my collection of vintage silver napkin rings.

Cleaning out the Garage

I bought this cute Beef Jerky stand out and about one Saturday afternoon years ago.  I thought I could use it somewhere in my house and envisioned the back in black or red.  Recently, I have been wandering around the house and have decided it’s time to do a little de-cluttering around here if that is even remotely possible.  My husband thought it would be a good idea if I started with the garage.  So………..

I did get around to painting the back black and still think it is adorable but today it left my garage.   It is going to get a new back and become a chalkboard in the kitchen.  What a great idea!  Enjoy it Vicki.  I know it  has found a good home.  One down and a few too many to go.

Estate Sale, Yarn, Ribbons and More

I was suppose to be at Erin’s from Just Grand this morning for her garage sale.  But, I thought it would be too cold and I was just too tired to get up.  Instead, I dragged my husband into the city for an estate sale.  I went for a three piece bookcase that sold 5 minutes before I walked into the room.  If we had been there 15 minutes earlier it would have been ours.  Bummer.  My husband was absolutely thrilled.  So, instead this lovely mirror and the pigeon hole cabinet came home with us.

Next, we decided to stop at a few shops as we headed into the city to see our daughter who has just moved back from San Francisco.  We stumbled onto this adorable yarn shop as the antique shop next door was closed.  As my husband was turning the car around, I was able to run in for a quick look and see.  I am definitely going back sometime in the future.

As we passed through Bucktown, I wanted to stop in at Soutache.  It is a true find for lovers of ribbons, buttons, feathers and flowers.  My husband did not believe me when I said we were stopping at a ribbon shop.  The owner laughed and said that most men start to twitch after they come through the door.  I could have stayed longer and will definitely be back to search out the vintage buttons for my next hand knit sweater.

Last stop was a run through The Painted Lady across the street in Bucktown.  Always changing and full of fun ideas.  A slow start to a great day!  Now I am off to find a wall for that mirror and to check in with Erin to see how the garage sale went.
