Waterlogue App

I spent the day working my garage sale and to entertain myself when there was a lull in the action, I played with my new Waterlogue app.  Great fun, this settee looks fabulous any way you shake it.

Bird Canisters

While home for Mother’s Day and flipping through the pictures on my sister’s iPhone, I saw these bird canisters.  Super Cute.  I may just have to hunt them down in person at Tuesday Morning.

Christmas Gift Idea: Jawbone Jambox

For everyone running around looking for that elusive Christmas gift, give the Jawbone Jambox wireless speakers.  I got this idea from Erin at Just Grand and we all fight over who gets to play their music.  Jambox is on sale today with free 2 day shipping arriving by Dec. 24th.  You can even mix and match your colors for your person.  It’s a great gift.  We use it with our iPad and iPhone and it moves all over the house.  I wish I could take credit for the picture above, but it came in my virtual mailbox today from Jawbone.  Click Here.

One of a Kind Show Favorites

Alison’s Stained Glass

Emmy Star Brown

Marla Fry Windows

I have a thing for old windows and love it when creative people use them as a canvas for their artwork.  Last year my favorite windows were from Marla Fry who unfortunately passed away this year.  She will always be missed.  Her husband has posted a final tribute on her web-site which reminds us all to live our passion.  I still enjoy visiting and seeing all her happy customers with their windows.

My two favorites this year were again local artisans.  Alison’s Stained Glass from Naperville makes gorgeous stained glass windows using vintage glass.  I adore the planters with the colored flowers and the trees are outstanding.  The next group of windows were created by Emmy Star Brown from Chicago who has an appealing fresh style.  The black speaks to me.  There were a ton of other talented artists and the show runs through Sunday.  If you have the time, go, it is a not to be missed event.

Destination: Hammer Boutique

My University of Michigan daughter was home this weekend and that means one thing:  clothes shopping.  Let’s be clear, I am not a Fashionista.  But, when you can combine clothes shopping with Vintage, I’m there!  Hammer Boutique in La Grange, IL is one of the most unique shops in the entire Chicagoland area.  If you love one of a kind items created by local artisans along with fashion trendy hip young clothes, then you absolutely have to take a trip to this shop.  Even the dressing room is to die for!  Visit their web-site:

Mom Bracelet

I made this bracelet for myself using a bracelet blank purchased on eBay, paper, glue and glass flower beads from Michaels.   As a Mom I wear many hats around here, but I felt this bracelet reflected who I am any given day of the year.  The daughter has been the one in most demand lately!

Kitchen Wine Cork Board

Once the kitchen construction was done, we had one bare wall left in the kitchen.  If you know me, then you know there are no bare walls in this house.  So, I asked my two handy guys to make a bulletin board out of wine corks and an old vintage picture frame that I bought down at Jan’s Antiques in Chicago.  They ended up making wine cork bulletin boards for our entire family and one huge one for the kitchen.  And yes, we did have all of those corks lying around the house.  What else are you going to do when you are under construction?

Last Year’s Family Gift

Art Girl Pottery

Last Christmas we gave bowls from Art Girl Pottery, Linda Wagner, of Wheaton, IL.  They were a BIG hit.  I first met Linda at the Kane County Flea Market and then again at the French Market in Wheaton.  She is a very talented pottery artist and both of our parents appreciated and liked their gift very much.   The font size symbolizes the generations:  grandparents, children, grandchildren.  You also can add any custom words, quotes or sayings that reflect your family.  I’m not sure I can raise the bar this Christmas.  It is probably too late to order a personalized gift from Linda this year, but you may want to bookmark her page for next year!
