Spring Break 2013

Flamingo-Pin

Bonita-Springs-Florida

Two guesses where I spent Spring Break this year.  It was a quick trip down to Florida to visit my parents.   The weather was a tad bit cool, but the pool was still inviting in the afternoons.  We visited my favorite antique mall in Naples, Treasure Island, where I snagged the cute vintage enamel flamingo pin to wear while in Florida.  My Mom and I also discovered a great antique estate liquidator that holds a monthly warehouse sale.  It was packed full and definitely a place to shop next time I’m in town.

Antique Garnet Initials

Antique-Garnet-Initials

Today was the 57th Emmanuel Episcopal Church Antique Show.  It was a chance to see and say hello to many of my favorite dealers.  The antique garnet initial pins made at the turn of the century were wonderful.   I just wish my name started with an E , A or V.  You still have a chance to get there as they are open tomorrow from 10am to 4pm.  Go!

Headband-Earrings-002

When my vintage earrings aren’t on my ears, they’re on my headbands adding a little vintage Bling to my day.  These earrings happen to be a pair that Erin passed on for her earring bracelets.  So, when she put them down, I snatched them up and said, I’m wearing these in my hair.  I also use them alone as hairclips without the headband for my bangs that are constantly in my way.    Actually, they make my bangs look better.  Vintage clip earrings are really beautiful and are out there in droves.  Use them.

Vintage Charm Necklace

This originally started out as a charm bracelet, but after 20 plus years of collecting I finally made it into a charm necklace.  The charms represent important aspects and events of my life over the years.  There is my high school ring, the homecoming disc, a wedding ring set , child silhouettes engraved with the name and birth date of each my 4 children along with every sport I play.  All of my collections and hobbies are also represented.  It is my life, and yes, I brush with Crest.   Even though it tends to be a little heavy around the neck, I still love telling the all the stories when people ask.  And they do.  Click HERE to read about my Christmas charm bracelet.

Vintage Flag Pins

Happy 4th of July!  The first thing I do on special holidays is check out what the Google graphics are for the day.  I hope you are all enjoying this 4th with your family and friends.  This post is for my friend Kim who is also in search of vintage flag pins.  I’ll be wearing one of these today as we march in our local parade and looking forward to the cherry pie.

Vintage Bug Pins

It is time to pull out the bug pins for summer.  I usually wear the ladybug when I feel I need a little good luck.  This year I am in search of a dragonfly, grasshopper and cicada or in other words, a good excuse to head out to the flea market.  For fun, type in vintage bug pins under Google images and take a look at what’s available around the web.

Vintage Basket Pins

85 degrees yesterday.  That is Spring in Chicago!  I figured it’s time to put away the Christmas Tree pins and start wearing the basket pins.  Most of these are from the 1940′s when a woman didn’t leave the house without a pin on.  It was definitely a fashion statement and still is today.  I found this cute vintage display table when I was out and about with my good friend Bonnie.  She said I had to have it and she was absolutely right.

Costume Jewelry

I can’t remember when I started collecting vintage jewelry.   Flea Markets and Estate Sales are my favorite places to search for fun interesting pieces. I saw these cute wire figurines at Hobby Lobby and decided they would be perfect for a clip earring display.   Mr. & Mrs. greet me every morning and remind me if you have it, wear it and I do!
