A birthday gift from my daughter!  The last time I saw Fleetwood Mac in concert?  Purdue University 1975, my freshmen year in college.  All four of my children know the words to Landslide one of my all time favorite songs and Number One on my iPod.  Can’t wait.  Thanks, Elle.

Here are a few shots from the Country Living Fair that we visited last weekend.  I have been in lake cottage mode lately looking for different ideas.  You can read an entire recap of our trip over at Erin’s Blog, Just Grand, she gives a full accounting of our fun getaway weekend.  I most enjoyed spending time and meeting more of Erin’s family.  They were delightful.  And the highlight of our trip?  The Walkway Over The Hudson below.

The month of May has finally ended and I can hear my entire family breathing a sigh of relief.  May is their least favorite month.  My husband calls it the May Trifecta.  My Birthday, Mother’s Day and our Anniversary all within 10 days of each other.  Pure torture.  Everyone thinks I am difficult to buy for.  I’m not.  This year, the above vintage Pixie Doorstop was my birthday surprise.  Found:  Great Lakes Antique Mall, Coloma, MI on the way to pick up our daughter from Univ. of Michigan for the summer.  Love it.

When I saw this vintage meat dome with Kathy on Tuesday, I knew I had to have it.  It took 3 days and 3 markets for the price to come down.  Maura and I purchased it Thursday at the May’s market.  Brimfield is a funny place.  As the week goes on, some of the prices for items go up and some go down.  This time luck was in my favor.  The dome fit in the extra suitcase I had brought to bring back my treasures.  Flying back to Chicago, it also triggered an entire bag search through security, but the TSA searching through my carry on loved it.  So do I.  Now my husband can let the turkey rest before carving.  A constant running battle after the meat is cook.  You should allow meat to sit a full 15 minutes before carving and now it will safely under the dome.

Day Three Brimfield.  We actually started the day at a normal hour and left the hotel around 7am.  The traffic into Brimfield was a 8 mile crawl, however, plenty of time to attend the May’s Market which opened at 9am.  The food court above was filled with lively music.  Maura and I enjoyed the eats and recommend the Pilgrim Sandwich booth across the street.   There were over 500 vendors with treasures galore and later tonight I will upload my fabulous finds of the day from the May’s Market.

Another Brimfield morning that started at dawn.  Today’s pictures are some of my favorite finds that wouldn’t fit in my suitcase and I had to take a pass on.  Next time, I need to bring a truck.  The cottage furniture set would definitely be coming home with me.  It was another beautiful day.  These were the markets that I attended on Wednesday, May 15th:

As a collector of anything baskets, especially doorstops and bookends, I found a few that weren’t in my collection.  The down side, it makes for very heavy luggage on the return trip to the airport.  The black basket bookends are 3 inches tall and perfect for my miniature books.  The basket door knocker is going to find a home on my kitchen door.  The smallest basket was a vintage shade pull which I am still tempted to use on my key ring.  Check back for Brimfield Finds Day 2 tomorrow.

I’m heading to Brimfield, Massachusetts next week for the Mother of all Flea Markets.  This is a picture from the May’s Antique Market 6 years ago.  I’m looking forward to meeting good friends, great weather and unusual finds.  Off to pack.

Michiana Shores is by far one of the most enchanting villages in lower Michigan.   Development began in the 1930′s as a log cabin town for vacationers.  Many of the cottages were originally built as summer cottages for Chicago teachers.   Today, the new log cabins blend seamlessly with the old.   A perfect getaway.

I’ve decided to go pink this year after our trip to Johansen Farms in Bolingbrook.  We finally beat the gardening crowd, fully stocked and plenty to choose from.  Lovely.

Three days a week you will find me on the side lines with camera in hand at my son’s Lacrosse games.  There is nothing vintage in Lacrosse.  As a former soccer Mom, I miss all my soccer families that we played with for 13 years.  Lacrosse is fairly new in our family and I am becoming a fan and making new friends along the way.  I could fill this Blog with sports pictures each week, but honestly, I see and hear enough sports on a daily basis in this house to last a lifetime.  My children have also stated that they have no desire to be featured on my Blog.   But hey, it’s my Blog.  So here’s a shot of my youngest in white on the left with the orange player all over him.  I love this picture.

Today we were in God’s country:  Michigan.  My friend has a wonderful lake house which is so warm and inviting.  We were lucky to spend the day on the back porch with a light breeze before the rain set in.  Lovely.  Black and Red, my kind of girl.

Sunday after Easter we visited Assumption Church located across from Gene and Georgetti’s in downtown Chicago.  The church was built in 1886 originally for Italian immigrants that had settled in the area.  Have you ever seen such a collection of Easter Lilies outside of a nursery?  They were lovely.  The church is smaller than most of the churches we have visited over the past months and has a very intimate feel to it.  Interestingly enough, I found a compelling reason to return in their bulletin:

“The Mass Unmasked On Sunday April 21 we will celebrate the 10:30 Mass a little differently. The words and gestures of the priest will be accompanied by a narration, explaining the history and meaning behind the various parts of our 2000 year old ritual, so that we can better appreciate the gift that Jesus left us.”

I may just have to bring my entire crew back here with me.  I love educational opportunities.  Afterwards, we met our daughter and friend for breakfast at Ina’s in the West End.  These outings just keep getting better every Sunday.

I was walking today with my friend Joy who always has a fabulous garden.  She mentioned it was time to look at the garden catalogs for the upcoming season.  So I went home and took a look at my garden inspiration:  magazine covers from the 1920′s.  I really was meant to live another time.  I collect vintage magazine covers for my fantasy garden.  I would love to have climbing roses, morning glories and hollyhocks wrapping around a garden gate, trellis or reflecting pond.  And what’s that saying?  If dreams were like wishes and wishes came true?  Maybe someday.  In the meantime, perusing my vintage magazines will have to do.

Big Fish opened in Chicago last night and it is fantastic.   I had seen the movie version years ago and really couldn’t imagine it as a musical play.  The set decoration, costumes and lighting are awesome.  The entire audience was leaning forward in their seats to watch some of the special effects.   It has been a long time since I’ve heard an audience ooh and aah during a play.  And of course at the end, you could hear people crying and sniffling throughout the theatre.  It is a very moving story between a father and his son.  The cast is excellent.  Norbert Butz, who played Fiyero in the original cast of Wicked, plays Edward Bloom.  And what a voice that man has.  My husband’s plane was late getting in so at the last minute my very good friend Bonnie was able to join me.  That, by far, was the best part of the evening.

It’s Spring in Chicago, 34 degrees and it snowed last night.  Since we are celebrating Easter all week long, I found these lovely Hydrangeas at Costco to brighten up the house.  It’s bound to get warmer by the end of the week.    But the real story here is that the photo’s above were altered with my iPad app 100 cameras.  I love using my iPad and have dozens of photo editing applications, but my favorite by far is the 100 Cameras by Trey Ratcliff.   Here is what the pictures looked like before editing.  Nice, but not fantastic.

Makes a difference doesn’t it?

St. Michael’s located in Old Town is one of the oldest Catholic churches in the city of Chicago.  Today we attended the Palm Sunday service and for the blessing of the palm’s the entire congregation gathered in the back of the church.  It was actually a very intimate experience.  The 5 story alter at this church is breathtaking and my iPhone picture can’t capture all the intricate carvings.  But I have to ask, where the heck are the kneelers?  Hopefully, they are being re-furbished and will be back in the church soon.  Blessings to all for this Holy Week.

Just back from the Randolph Street Spring Market where I saw this adorable Geoffrey Beene dress from one of my favorite online vintage clothes retailers, Dethrose Vintage.  Karyn has a nice eye.  It also just happens to be what I wear most, black and white.   Clothes shopping has always been a challenge for me as I am color blind.  I always end up having to explain that it is not that I don’t see color, it’s just that I don’t have the ability to perceive the color or the differences in color.     I have passed this on genetically to both of my sons.  So, never ask us what color something is.  Our answers can be pretty surprising.  Hence, I default a lot to black and white.  It’s just easy.

But I love color!  I couldn’t begin to tell you what colors are in this dress, but I can occasionally find a good shade of green.  This 70′s dress was from another one of my favorite vintage clothes vendors, NOV.  A very delightful mother and daughter duo with great vintage taste.  It was a very fun day and afterwards I met my two daughters downtown for a quick lunch.  I have not yet managed to convert them into life in vintage.  You know I’m going to die trying.
