My 24 year old daughter surprised me with tickets for just the two of us to attend The Nutcracker the day after Christmas. It was the 25th anniversary show of the Joffrey Ballet’s performance with the Chicago Philharmonic orchestra. She was 7 the last time we saw the show together. We attended the matinee performance which was filled with mothers and daughters of all ages then headed down Michigan avenue for a stroll with all the other after Christmas shoppers. What a treat. Thanks Elle Belle.

The picture hanging above the vintage coffee tea set is one of my first purchases the year we were married. I found it with my husband in an small antique shop in Nappanee, Indiana. It was done in chalk and mica has been added to the snow. The picture glistens and glitters with the light. I look forward to seeing it again every Christmas. While looking at it, you feel the cold night air. All the more reason to come in for a nice warm cup of coffee or tea served in the 1920′s Wilcox silverplate set with the vintage sugar shakers. It does not take much to dress up this set for Holidays. It is still as beautiful as the day I found it out at an local estate sale.

I took a little break today from the Christmas mania over here and went for a walk around the neighborhood. It’s a beautiful sunny day and I wanted to share what my neighbors have been up to for a little Christmas inspiration. The planters this year are unbelievable. Don’t you just love the one with Rudolph popped inside? It was hard to pick my favorite, it was between the planter painted blue and the first one in the boxwood circle. I’m going with the picture number one. It’s stunning in person.

This picture was taken on my iPhone. I pass this house often on my way into town. I don’t know who lives there, but I know I would like her. Anyone that would set up a church outside on a vintage dresser is my kind of girl. Love this.

I’m heading to the Kane County Flea Market this weekend in pursuit of vintage Christmas tree ornaments. I sold my Noma bubble lights this month on eBay. Even though I was kind of sad to see them go, I just couldn’t babysit them one more year trying to keep them going. Hopefully, the new owner will love them as much as I did. These will be so much easier.

I thought with the PowerBall at $550 million, it wouldn’t hurt to call in the Christmas Tree Fairy for a little luck tonight. I think she looks like she may be granting a few wishes. This is a lovely 1940′s vintage print. Artwork by Cicely Barker who was an English illustrator known for her fantasy flowers and fairies.
